side garden bed

back in the middle of june, the first weekend after paul completed his masters classes, we fixed up the side garden bed which also happens to be the smallest one that we have. it sits just on the right side of the stairs leading to the porch.

we’d already planted one before i thought to take pictures so i don’t have a before shot. but basically it was all clay dirt with some weeds here and there. in fact the reason i started taking photos is because we saw this little guy and i just HAD to have a photo of him! so, thanks little guy otherwise i wouldn’t have these photos or this post.

we read that mint is a good deterrent to pests so we decided to plant some mint. in case you didn’t know, mint is VERY invasive. and if you don’t plant it in a container before throwing it in the ground then it will take over.

like i said earlier i forgot to take before photos so we’re going to start with the second planting.  the first one kentucky colonel spearmint.  the second one is robert mitchum peppermint.  paul is digging the hole.  look at that booty!!  mmmm!!!!

another booty shot!  paul said that it looks like he’s taking a dump.  haha!!

he’s putting the clay dirt in the bucket here.

and this is after we mulched and placed some rocks down.

it looks so clean!  btw, all those rocks were dug up from when we were digging holes to plant these mints as well as the hydrangeas on the other side.  crazy, huh!!

the last two photos were taken mid-august so they were actually about two months later. this was our first time gardening together and we haven’t stopped since! pretty much every weekend we’ve been working on the yard – be it the front or back. we had such a fun time. who knew gardening would be so much fun!!?!!?!
