Gingham or Buffalo Check? aka Pinspiration numero -sesenta y cuatro

Just like the blogger says in her post about this pattern, I have no idea which is the correct term.  Is it Buffalo Check or Gingham?  Either way, this look has been catching my eye and when I saw this on pinterest I knew I had to make one.

I had bought this cute print in charm squares and cake layers but didn’t know what to do with it.  So when I saw the above pattern, I thought it would be perfect.

I love the all the colors! This is the front.

This is the back.  I wanted to incorporate the cake layers in somehow and thought that it showed more of the print this way.

For the middle, I used a yellow fleece that I had in my stash.  The color shows through a bit under the white pieces but because there is yellow in the prints I felt that it worked well.

I don’t remember the name of the print or the designer but I got these from Massdrop a while ago.

Regardless of what the correct name of the pattern is I really like it and want to make more.  I don’t know if I like the solid color look, first photo, or the print look, shown above.

What do you think is the correct name and which look do you like better?

pantry update

remember when i painted my pantry yellow? and i put everything back just as it was.

it meant that we had bags of pretzels and chocolate chips, boxes of cake mix and bread mix, packs of pasta and beans. all sitting out in the “open”.  and all was well.

until paul had the grand idea of organizing everything using closed containers. just in case we have mice or other little critters running around these parts. so far so good.

so i went to target and got some containers. i packed things up as best i could.  i left out the cans and jars.

and because i am who i am and i love me some close-ups.  =)

it’s gotten some getting used to but it’s grown on me.  and it looks much more organized and clean.

why didn’t paul think of this earlier?  haha.

what do you think?  would you pack all your things into containers?  do you have mice or other little critters running around your parts?  what is your solution?  please share!

weekly photo challenge: happy

last year i participated in a weekly photo challenge through the daily wordpress dot com. i did pretty good about keeping up with the challenge until november. then i just fell off the face of the earth.

i made a photo book of the challenges and thought that i’d post those that i didn’t get done until just now. so…….

things that make me happy:

Laundry Room, REVEALED! {finally}

Have I put it off long enough?

Have you forgotten all about this project?

Well, I’m back.  To let you know. How it all turned out.

Let’s start with some before pictures. That way you don’t have to go searching for the first post, waaaaaay back when. =)

Here is a picture of the nasty wire shelf and the white walls.

And the builder grade light fixture.

And now onto…The Grand Finale.

Here it is in all its glory!

And as you can see, I went with the red baskets.  I have been on a yellow and red kick lately.  So very asian of me!!  haha.

A more close up view of the shelves and the hanging bar.

Moving the ironing board and iron into the nook made for some space in front of the washer.  It also made it a bit easier to open and close the door since we didn’t have to be as cautious.

Here is the sign that I found just a few months before we left Alabama.  I thought it stated perfectly how I feel about laundry.  How do you feel about laundry?

I am loving these totes!  They provide extra storage for things not even remotely related to laundry (as you can see below).  I found these cute chalkboard clips on GroopDealz.  They are the perfect way to help me remember what is in each tote.

And just because I like them (and I know you do too!), a close up of one of the totes and a chalkboard clip.  This one is empty since I’m still sorting and organizing and, basically, just being lazy.  ;p

One last shot of the the whole nook, with the light on.

And that will do for our laundry nook. I am so happy with the new layout. It offers much more storage space and now I don’t have to hang our clothes in bedroom doorways to dry. It also works out so great that I no longer have to get on my tippy toes to reach for the detergent. I simply just reach out and grab it. Ohhhhhh, yeahhhh!

Wanna check out the progress of the laundry room? You can start here at the establishing post, the ideas post, the researching post, the planning post, and end here at the construction post.

life rearranged

Linking up with Life Rearranged to give you a glimpse of my week, in cell phone photos.

Last Friday was National Flip Flop Day. Even though I call them slippers, I still had to celebrate since they are my favorite type of footwear.

It’s been pretty hot here this past week and my garage is even hotter! Am so glad that it hasn’t gotten that hot here, yet, if it does. One of many things I DON’T miss about Alabama!!!!

I was craving something sweet so I decided to make some chocolate milk, Paul style. What’s Paul’s style? Well, it’s chocolate milk with some whip cream mixed into it.

I came home today and saw this lilly blooming in my front yard. So happy for perennials! Bloom where you’re planted.
