I saw on pinterest that you can grow plants from lemon seeds and thought I should try it since we were using a lot of lemons.  Unfortunately the link to the blog that I saw it on is no longer.  But up there is the link to my pinterest page of the lemon seed growing.

Start out with some clean seeds.
image

I followed what the pictures looked like in the image saved onto pinterest and started with some small pebbles, soil, seeds, more soil, and then topped it off with more small pebbles.
image

a few weeks later there was some growth.  i took this picture of the growth that i saw but i don’t think this is from the lemon seed.  =(
image

these, however, are from the lemon seeds.  aren’t they gorgeous?!!?!
image

or maybe they’re not?  how can you tell?
image

i saw these “bumps” and thought they must be the lemon seed leaves!!!
image

this project didn’t really turn into anything.  i got lazy and stopped watering and so the leaves died.  then it became winter and it was too cold.  i’m going to say this was a pinterest success, though, because i did see some growth.  yay!  i may try again but this time be more diligent about watering.  haha.  we’ll see!

You guys remember the pinterest fail?

Well, this one is similar but it was not a fail.  I bought some green onions and used them up and then Paul had this great idea to plant them in some soil and not just water.
image

This time it worked out great.  We were able to use the green onion for several weeks before we needed to buy some new ones.  However, we’ve only done this once so I’m not sure how money saving it is.  Plus we don’t use green onions all that much.

This was a pinterest FAIL!

I’ve seen this regrow thing all around pinterest and facebook so I thought I’d give it a try.  Basically you take the part of the romaine lettuce that you didn’t use and place it in some water, let it re-grow, and then cut for consumption.

So, here you see that it is actually re-growing.
image

And maybe a few days later when I went to cut them I saw this.  Blech!!
image

MOLD!  Pinterest FAIL!!  I have not tried to do this since, I think this was sometime late 2013, and I don’t plan on trying it again.

side plantage

In Summer 2013, we went into overdrive with improving our yards.  We mowed almost twice a week, removed all the plantage that was in our front beds and replaced it with peonies, hydrangeas, and mint, and we started a small container garden.

Along those fun projects, I also wanted to liven up our back yard beds.  So I decided to go flower shopping and found these fun and pretty little things.  I don’t remember what their name is, lo siento.  I started out by placing them where they were to be planted, according to the space  required.

Here’s a better shot of what the flowers look like.  So pretty!  I love the purple/blue petals.
image

Then I started to dig the soil where it was to be planted.
image

Mixed in some topsoil.
image

Removed the flowers from the container and then broke up the roots a little so they could expand and grow.
image

Then I placed it in the hole and covered it up with more topsoil.
image

Look at the difference between the topsoil and Ohio “soil”.  Haha!
image

Here is one side of the bed completed.  I then completed the other side but I guess I didn’t take a picture.

These flowers didn’t last long.  We went on a trip and when we came back they were all dead.  =(  Boo.  Maybe when we go back we’ll replace them.

leaky {outside} faucet

when paul and i bought our house in 2011 we just went about our days using our outdoor faucet like anyone would. however, we noticed that it was leaking. a. lot. but he was gone last year and i didn’t take much care.

so this year, since we’ve been using it a WHOLE lot more, we thought we’d better do something about it.

good thing we did. because this is what we had to replace. and no more leaking!

the one on the left is what we replaced and the one on the right is what we replaced it with.

image

ummm. yea. it definitely was time for some replacing. it’s a no wonder why our water was leaking.
